SK Art Senato – 1933-2024

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of our brother Sir Knight Art Senato early Monday morning, June 24th. He was 91. He went into a peaceful sleep in the company of his family, his son Arthur and daughters Barbara and Christine. For the last couple of years he had been living at the “Isle at Watercrest Mansfield”, an Assisted Living facility in Mansfield, Texas.

I had the opportunity to visit him yesterday, Sunday afternoon and say goodbye to him. I prayed with him and told him how proud all his brother knights were of him, of his service to our council, of his generosity and of his leadership in our community especially with our youth at Holy Spirit.

Art was born in the Bronx, New York on May 31, 1933. He joined the Air Force in 1952 and was sent to Carswell AFB in 1955 when he was 22. After serving three years in the Air Force he joined the Army (1958-77) and worked as a helicopter and airplane mechanic for the next nineteen years. The Army sent him abroad to Germany and North Africa. He retired as a sergeant E-7 and decided to continue to make his home in north Texas. He lived in Arlington since 2001 and became a parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville. In 2005 he joined the Knights of Columbus Council 8157 in the parish. As a Knight Art was an active leader, serving as co-director for youth activities and was an avid participant of many other KC programs such as the basketball free-throw contests, the catechist dinners and blood drives. He was front and center for the spaghetti dinners organized to help the church youth group fund their annual mission trips. He served as a member of the degree team, and his last officer post was that of Outside Guard. Art was a Fourth Degree Sir Knight.

Art was a big sports fan, particularly baseball, he loved the Texas Rangers. He had that in common with his longtime friend Maureen White (a New Jersey native herself) a parishioner at Holy Spirit. He instilled that passion for baseball to his son Arthur, a well known high school level baseball coach.

His daughter Christine informed me they’re tentatively planning on funeral services to be held this weekend or early next week at St. Jude Catholic Church in Mansfield. They would be honored to have Knights in attendance at the funeral service, especially Fourth Degree Knights as Pallbearers.

Art is survived by his three children Arthur Philip Senato, Barbara Jean Bryant and Christine Morris. His half brother James Senato and step-sisters Kim Boroughs and Robin Hopkins. As well as nine grandchildren: Samantha Humphrey, Danielle Sweely, Gabrielle Senato, Braden Bryant, Connor Morris, Natalie Morris, Sydney Boroughs, Maxine Hopkins, Henry Hopkins. And two great grandchildren: Everett Sweely, and Summer Sweely.

May God rest and keep his soul.
